3 people shot outside Ohio high school football game

Three people were shot outside an Ohio high school football game on Friday night.

The shooting took place with under seven minutes left in the rivalry game between Whitmer High School and Central Catholic High School in Toledo, Ohio, according to WTOL 11.

Fans in attendance and band members fled the field as chaos unfolded near the field. News footage showed adults shielding children from the potential stray gunfire.

A Whitmer High School student was among those injured in the shooting, according to the outlet. Two others -— a man and a woman — were also injured.

All three victims were transported to a local hospital, but the severity of their conditions remains unknown.

The Toledo Police Department has not made any arrests in connection to the shooting as of early Saturday.

“We are deeply saddened that a fun rivalry tonight was disrupted by an act of violence in the streets surrounding our event,” Superintendent Kadee Anstadt of Washington Local Schools released in a statement.

“An event like this is every school district’s worst nightmare, and we ask that you keep both Central and Whitmer in your thoughts as we attempt to figure out this atrocious act.”

Dr. Katie Peters, the communications director for Washington local schools, said no fans were injured during the evacuation.
